At St. John’s College of Nursing, clinical training forms the backbone of nursing education. Students receive hands-on exposure through the parent hospital and affiliated multi-specialty healthcare institutions. This real-time learning experience enables them to connect theory with practice and develop clinical confidence.
1. Parent Hospital – Real-time Training
The college is associated with a 125-bed multidisciplinary parent hospital in Tirunelveli.
Students gain exposure from the first year onwards, covering departments such as:
- General Medicine & Surgery
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Pediatrics
- Emergency & Critical Care
- Community and Primary Health Care
Under the guidance of qualified faculty and clinical instructors, students learn essential nursing skills, documentation, and patient interaction in a live hospital environment.
2. Affiliated Clinical Training Hospitals
To widen the scope of clinical learning, St. John’s College of Nursing has tie-ups with leading government and private hospitals. These institutions provide specialized training in advanced healthcare settings.

Students rotate across different departments to gain knowledge in surgical, psychiatric, pediatric, maternity, and geriatric care.
3. Community Health Postings
Students are also posted in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Urban Health Centres to understand the dynamics of rural and urban health systems.

Vacation & Leave Rules
- Vacations are granted as per INC norms and university calendar.
- Leave for illness or emergencies must be supported with a medical certificate and prior intimation to the Principal.
- Unauthorized absence may result in disciplinary action or loss of attendance.
